Aperture is a public affairs and communications firm dedicated to helping companies, organizations and individuals develop messages, identify their audiences and craft strategies to deliver messages that create impact.
That impact can be in the form of greater clarity of message; or differentiating a company from a crowded field of competitors. Or explain a complex issue through the lens of the media or directly via a senior executive. Or manage crisis communications. Whatever the effect, Aperture was founded to help organizations use communications and public affairs tools to advance their broader business strategy.
Michael Drescher spent the first 20 years of his career in public relations consulting, corporate communications and senior-level government communications public affairs roles. He has provided strategic communications counsel and managed media relations, trade media efforts for health care clients and public-sector organizations.
He also led public affairs efforts during the redesign of Tennessee’s Medicaid program, ultimately securing the support of the public and the Tennessee General Assembly for a reform plan. Later, he served as Senior Advisor and Communications Director for Tennessee Governor, Phil Bredesen. In that role, Drescher oversaw the governor’s public events, messages, speeches, media and public interactions in support of the governor's public policy agenda.
Later, in the private sector, his communications experience extended to the health plan sector where he helped reinvent the communications between a health plan and its network of hospitals and physicians and recently helped drive sales growth for a health care technology company.
Drescher launched Aperture Public Affairs to provide strategic communications consulting and public affairs counsel to clients in health care, government, non-profit and other industries.

Drescher’s counsel helped the organization focus its messaging - internal and external - to manage the crisis by “lowering the temperature” around the issue, creating space for speedy and effective resolution. He prepared message points for all key leaders across the organization to ensure consistency of message and developed media statements and advised on media strategy and internal communications.

From developing milestones to helping compose messaging, Drescher served as an outside advisor to the leadership group and helped the core team craft the messaging and organize the communications efforts to effectively share the changes with the staff and clients.
From message development to message training for leadership to writing the communications plan, Drescher provided counsel that empowered the leadership group to execute an effective communications effort.

Drescher worked with the principal to identify and articulate the changes, detail the benefits to current and future clients and transfer that messaging into new corporate collaterals.

When a large health care company wanted to redesign the way it communicated with its external stakeholders, Drescher helped overhaul the processes, tone and approach to long-standing communications efforts. Stakeholders were organized and recruited to provide feedback, contributed to assessments of historical efforts, participated in advisory boards and workgroup meetings that led to a new communications strategy, tools and approach that met the company’s needs and created greater transparency and trust with its external stakeholders.
These engagement efforts continued beyond this project to become the basis for ongoing and regularly scheduled stakeholder meetings to identify and address additional points of friction between the company and its key stakeholders.
